Gas pipeline project affecting 9 lakh citizens stalled despite being an essential service
Priority to CNG Projects; Instructions to Ensure Smooth LPG Supply
Pune: The central government has directed that work related to CNG projects across the country be expedited on a priority basis. At the same time, emphasis has also been placed on resolving issues in LPG supply to ensure uninterrupted service to citizens. This information was shared by BJP national spokesperson and Petroleum Dealers Association national member, Ali Daruwala.
In a letter sent by the concerned central government department to states and union territories, instructions have been issued to complete pending work related to CNG infrastructure development on an urgent basis. This includes laying pipelines, obtaining necessary permissions, approvals for road excavation, and improving coordination among various departments.
Additionally, directions have been given to review and address the difficulties arising in LPG supply in certain areas. The objective is to improve the distribution system and ensure smooth availability of gas in both rural and urban regions.
In this context, it has also been clarified that state governments, local self-governing bodies, and concerned agencies should work in coordination to provide citizens with safe, affordable, and uninterrupted energy services.
Gas pipeline project affecting 9 lakh citizens stalled despite being an essential service
Pune / Pimpri-Chinchwad: In some societies in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, gas is supplied directly through pipelines. Mahanagar Gas Limited has taken the initiative for this project. Gas supply through pipelines is planned for the Hadapsar area; however, the work has been stalled due to a dispute over whether to dig a cycle track at Pulgate.
If this issue is resolved, around 9 lakh citizens and 25,000 rickshaw drivers will benefit from gas supply. Mahanagar Gas Ltd. is ready to pay the required charges to the municipal corporation, but the civic administration has not responded. Despite follow-ups with Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, the issue remains unresolved.
Given that gas supply is considered an essential service, the ESMA Act has been invoked in case of disruptions. Ali Daruwala has demanded that the municipal corporation find an immediate solution to the issue.
