Amitabh Ashesh Explicates Yufism
Amitabh Ashesh’s striking exhibition ‘Yun Bhi’ displays forty prototypical paintings exploring unique conceptual territories. They boldly demonstrate mental maps to compose edged art, transforming gallery walls into chapters from a just published art thesis.

Developed over a decade, the works build upon Amitabh’s training at Stanford University’s Art department with California stalwarts including Frank Lobdell, a leader of the Bay Area Figurative movement. The novel compositional principles are organised under the rubric ‘Yufism’.
All paintings have original titular poems by a mysterious Bolbul, infusing the visual space with literary air. Words and picture combine for ethereal fun. Themes are quotidian, featuring ordinary folks and even animals. One notable aspect is the representation of Indian women with uber contemporary attitudes.
