ILLUMINATI 2026: IGNITING IDEAS, ILLUMINATING TOMORROW


The Armed Forces Medical College successfully hosted Illuminati 2026, its flagship undergraduate research conference from 01 – 03 May 2026, under the theme Igniting ideas, Illuminating tomorrow.” Organized by the Students Scientific Society, the event witnessed an overwhelming national participation, bringing together over 1300 delegates from premier medical, paramedical and engineering institutions across the country.

This years Conference stood out as a confluence of academic excellence, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, reflecting AFMCs enduring commitment to nurturing a culture of research and inquiry among undergraduate students. Illuminati 2026 not only showcased emerging scientific thoughts but also reinforced the institutes role as a cradle of future clinician- scientists and healthcare leaders.

The conference was graced by eminent personalities including Padma Shri Dr Prakash Amte, noted humanitarian doctor and Ramon Magsasay award recipient, famous for his exemplary service in tribal and rural health care  and Gp Capt Subhanshu Shukla , AC, astronaut whose keynote addresses inspired participants with their invaluable perspective on service, perseverance and excellence in the medical profession and life. Their words resonated deeply, leaving a lasting impression on young aspirants.

Illuminati 2026 featured a comprehensive academic programme comprising paper presentations, case discussions, symposia, quizzes and hackathons fostering a rigorous and intellectually stimulating environment. Avishkar, the innovative platform of the conference, emerged as focal point for creative problem solving with participants presenting pioneering ideas ranging from novel medical devices to AI driven healthcare solutions.

A hallmark of this years conference was the successful conduct of 23 hands on  workshops spanning diverse clinical and interdisciplinary domains like 3D printing, suturing and laparoscopy simulation, research proposal making, fibro scan, point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS). The collaboration with the Institute of Aerospace Medicine offered participants a rare insightful exposure to aerospace and aviation medicine, broadening their academic and professional horizons.

This year, delegates were accorded the privilege of an immersive heritage walk through the esteemed campus of AFMC, offering a glimpse into its legacy, architectural grandeur, and enduring contributions to military medicine. The academic dimension was further enriched through an introduction to the Medical Journal of Armed Forces India (MJAFI) wherein participants gained insights into the process of scientific writing, peer review and publication ethics. This engagement fostered a deeper appreciation for scholarly dissemination and evidence based practice, complementing the institutions long standing tradition of excellence in medical education, research and service.

Adding a distinctive experimental dimension, the event witnessed an immersive and meticulously orchestrated demonstration titled Mission Medevac: Frontline response” executed by a Field Hospital, which seamlessly integrated elements of simulated battlefield realism with structured medical response protocols, thereby offering an intricate yet compelling portrayal of combat casualty management. The demonstration clearly showcased the readiness, seamless coordination, and clinical expertise of the Armed Forces Medical Services. It left the audience both informed and deeply aware of the complexities involved in frontline medical response.

Beyond academics, the conference fostered a spirit of camaraderie and cultural engagement. Simulation – based learning sessions and interactive modules enriched participant experience while the much anticipated socials and DJ night along with a captivating performance by AFMC cadet brand Synesthesia, added a vibrant celebratory dimension to the event.

Reflecting on the success of the conference, the organizing committee remarked At Illuminati we are not merely showcasing research, but cultivating a generation of innovators in medicine. This platform embodies the spirit of inquiry, resilience and excellence – empowering young minds to shape the future of healthcare”.

With its successful execution, Illuminati 2026 has further consolidated AFMCs position at the forefront of undergraduate medical research and education in the country. The conference continues to stand as a testament to this institutions legacy of academic distinction, education and research.
