Dr. Sanjay Runwal’s latest book ‘Golden Retirement’, delves into crafting a meaningful post-retirement life that goes beyond the balance sheet.

Pune : Retirement is not an end but an opportunity to reimagine life, shifting focus beyond financial security to overall well-being and purpose, opined internationally renowned motivational speaker, corporate trainer, and leadership coach Minocher Patel. He was speaking at the launch of the book Golden Retirement: Design Your Next Chapter—Beyond the Balance Sheet, authored by Dr. Sanjay Runwal, founder of the Sanjay Runwal Foundation. The book was unveiled in a special program organised at  the Navalmal Firodia Auditorium at Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute on Law College Road on Saturday in the presence of eminent personalities from diverse fields. The program was compered by CA Ravi Pandit. Mrs. Pratibha Runwal and Sarika Runwal were present on the occasion.

In the second half of the program Adwait Kurlekar, leading Business Strategy Expert interacted with author Dr. Sanjay Runwal on his latest book. The program also saw the launch of the website www.drsanjayrunwal.com which will have information on all the books penned by Dr. Runwal and the books for sale. The updated version of his popular  book Thoughtful Reflections for a Meaningful Life’ is also available on the website.

Mr. Minocher Patel said that a fulfilling life rests on key pillars—Happiness Quotient, Emotional Quotient, Health Quotient, Social Quotient, and Spiritual Quotient. According to him, true happiness begins with taking personal responsibility and becoming emotionally self-sufficient rather than depending on others. He noted that many people struggle because they outsource their happiness, instead of training their minds to stay positive. Equally important is maintaining good health, nurturing meaningful relationships, and cultivating spirituality through selfless service and daily acts of kindness. He highlighted that strong social connections and genuine friendships significantly enhance longevity and quality of life. He shared that people often chase success but forget to understand what truly makes them happy. For a joyful life, he offered simple yet powerful Guru Mantras: maintain balance in all aspects of life, learn to let go of negativity, live each day as if it were your last, lower expectations while increasing acceptance, and practice being attached yet detached.

While using a lot of acronyms to make his messaging easily understandable to the readers, Dr. Sanjay Runwal explained that much of our unhappiness stems from what he simplifies through the acronym A.E.D.—Attachment, Expectations, and Desires. As individuals approach retirement, often in their late 50s or early 60s, they tend to measure success through financial independence and societal benchmarks. However, true fulfillment comes only when one’s identity is no longer shaped by others’ opinions or validation. Real happiness lies in building inner worth, where material assets become secondary and the self takes precedence. Through Golden Retirement, my effort is to shift focus of readers inward. People rely on external “props” throughout life—status, roles, and possessions—and questions what remains when these are gone. Ultimately, individuals have to rethink retirement not as a forced exit, but as a conscious transition—whether driven by a push from the past or a pull toward a more meaningful future.

Retirement is often seen as the end of an active life, but Dr. Runwal presents it as a well-planned new beginning. Moving beyond financial readiness, the book encourages rediscovering identity, building emotional strength, and creating a meaningful legacy. It serves as both a guide and inspiration, portraying retirement as a “Golden Era” focused on growth and well-being. It also highlights finding purpose beyond work, nurturing resilience, enjoying daily life, and leaving a lasting impact.
