Defending champs SGPC Amritsar, Sports Hostel Jhansi roll on
SNBP Academy tops group, enters last-8
PUNE : Hosts SNBP Academy along with defending champions Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar and Sports Hostel Jhansi, Round Glass Academy earned themselves berths in the last-8 of the 7th SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament (Boys’ Under-16) at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi here on Wednesday.
Later in the day, Bhongir Academy Telangana (Pool-E) and Army Boys Sports Company (Pool-F) and Jai Hockey Academy (Pool-H) joined in to complete the last-8 line-up after Dhyanchand Academy booked a berth the day before.
In Pool-E, hosts SNBP Academy had a cake walk with Naval Tata Hockey Academy forfeiting their match, which meant SNBP finished on top of the pool with six points having beaten Olympian Bhaskaran Hockey Academy.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar then put out Regional Development Centre 5-0 to top Pool-C. Skipper Harmanbeer Singh (11th – p.c) set the ball rolling and then a brace by Gurpreet Singh (18th, 29th) and a goal each by Goyalpreet Singh (52nd) and Harjit Singh (58th) completed the tally.
From Pool-G first-timers Round Glass Academy once again impressed with a 10-2 win over Sukhjeevan Sports Academy. Seven scorers made up the tally with Amandeep Singh (25th – p.c, 29th – p.c, 45th, 58th – p.c) leading the way with a four-goal individual effort.
Other scorers included, Jasmeet Singh (18th), Inderjit Singh (21st), Deepakpreet Singh (22nd); Samuel (38th); Sajan Rajbhar (51st) and Manish Kumar (54th) completed the tally.
For Sukhjeevan Sports Academy Kunal Rajbhar (43rd) and Akash Rajbhar (56th) reduced the margin.
Pool-B saw Sports Hostel Jhansi inflict Tata Steel Foundation a huge 10-0 defeat. Three goals by Pralahad Panday (10th, 17th, 40th) , a brace each by Vivek Yadav (18th, 19th) and Akhilesh Yadav (20th, 27th) and a goal each by Karan Dhanuk (25th) and Shivam (38th) totaled the huge score.
The tournament is being organised by the S.E Society’s SNBP Group of Institutes’ under the aegis of Hockey India and Hockey Maharashtra.
