Students Lead ‘Cleanscape’ Drive to Promote Cleaner Public Spaces During Ganesh Visarjan

65 architecture students from five colleges come together to clean Vitthalwadi and Omkareshwar Temple areas in Pune

Pune : On the occasion of the 69th National Association of Students of Architecture (NASA) India Day, MKSSS’s Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture (BNCA) organised ‘Cleanscape’, a cleanliness drive on September 15, 2026, the second day of the Ganesh festival, during Visarjan at Vitthalwadi and Omkareshwar Temple in Pune.

The initiative involved the collection of Nirmalya and cleaning of surrounding areas, including the plastic and dry waste.

Dr. Shubhada Kamalapurkar, Principal-in-Charge, and Dr. Sharvey Dhongde, Vice Principal, appreciated the efforts of the organisers and volunteers and encouraged more such initiatives for a cleaner Pune.

Coordinated by students Tanya Ahuja, and Shravani Patil, from BNCA under the guidance of Prof. Ar. Mahesh Bangad, the drive brought together 65 student volunteers from architecture colleges across Pune, including BNCA, BKPS College of Architecture, DY Patil School of Architecture, Smt.Kashibai Navale College of Architecture, MIT School of Architecture, MIT ADT, VU’s School of Architecture and Planning, Pune  and S B Patil College of Architecture and Design.

Cleanscape aimed to promote community participation and collective responsibility towards public spaces. The initiative also encouraged students to view cleanliness through an architectural lens, examining the relationship between people, urban infrastructure and their surroundings.

The drive received support from The Architects, Engineers & Surveyors Association (AESA), Pune, INTACH Pune, MB Ki Pathshala, community organisations and individuals. Prachi Dudhane, Founder-Director, Warsa Social Foundation, and Atharva Kakade, District President, Leo Club District 3234 D2, Pune, also extended their support.
