Effective Demonstration of a System That Makes Polluted Water Drinkable

Research by Dr. Karan Chavan from Pune

Pune: A practical demonstration showing how modern technology can be used to address the serious contemporary problems of water and air pollution was presented today at the Boat Club on behalf of Eco Ice.

At the event, two projects — Project Droplet and Jalshuddhi — were showcased. Under Project Droplet, using solar energy and artificial intelligence, a boat is used to monitor the purity of water, the level of pollution, and other environmental parameters in rivers and other water bodies. The information about the water ecosystem is made instantly available on a dashboard. The project was developed in collaboration with Fluid Analytics and has received the “Co-Pioneer of the Year 2024” international recognition from the World Economic Forum, said Dr. Karan Chavan, Founder and Chairman of Eco Ice.
Present at the event were dignitaries including Rajni Indulkar (Director of Vidya Pratishthan), Atul Chandra, Shruti Bapat, and others.

They also demonstrated a water purification system called “Jalshuddhi” that **burns the contaminated portion of water and then uses RO (Reverse Osmosis) technology to make it drinkable. This system can be used for household water purification as well as to treat large water reservoirs. According to Dr. Chavan, using this technology makes water reuse possible and can help tackle water scarcity. He also mentioned that technology is available to purify air using drones, just as water is purified.

Rajni Indulkar said that clean water, polluted air, and unmanaged waste are major problems of today. Among these, the work of young innovators developing technology to clean air and water is commendable, and they deserve encouragement.
