Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways Creates Replica of Pune Metro Line 3
Pune : Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways, the renowned railway museum in Pune, has created a miniature model of Puneri Metro, the Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi, which was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The replica has been developed by the father-son duo of Dr. Ravi Joshi and Devavrat Joshi of the museum. To help commuters understand the new metro corridor and its features, this miniature model has been installed at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Metro Station in Mhalunge-Balewadi.
Sharing details about the project, Devvrat Joshi said, “The miniature model has been created on a platform measuring approximately 20 feet in length and six and a half feet in width. It features all 23 stations along the metro route and has been developed at a scale of 1:500.”

Special LED lighting has been incorporated into the model to demonstrate the movement of the metro train, giving commuters a better understanding of how the metro operates along the route.
To ensure that the replica captures the actual infrastructure of the corridor, several key features have been incorporated in the model. These include the double-decker flyover at Ganeshkhind, the bridge crossing the river at Wakad Chowk, the supporting pillars of the bridge in the river, and the metro depot or car shed at Maan, where the metro transitions from the elevated corridor to the ground level.
Dr. Ravi Joshi said that special effort was taken to incorporate these infrastructure details to make the miniature model as realistic as possible.
Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways has previously developed several working models to meet the requirements of different departments of Indian Railways.
Expressing satisfaction over completing the project within 30 days, the father-son duo said they were delighted to have successfully created a replica of Pune Metro Line 3, an important milestone in strengthening the city’s public transport network.
Conceptualized by the late Bhau Joshi, Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways is located in Kothrud, Pune. The museum offers visitors an engaging insight into different types of railways across the world through working miniature models and an impressive light-and-sound show. It attracts a large number of school children as well as railway enthusiasts and curious visitors.
