International Conference on Reproductive Genetics ‘Fetal Nexus 2026’ Held in Pune
Pune : An international academic conference titled “Fetal Nexus 2026 – Reproductive Genetics in Clinical Practice” was held in Pune, bringing together leading clinicians, researchers and specialists to discuss the latest developments in fetal medicine and reproductive genetics.
The conference was organised by the Society of Fetal Medicine – Greater Pune Chapter, in association with MAHA NMO Pune and Umarji Mother & Child Care Hospital.
Renowned international faculty from Hong Kong, Prof. Tak Yeung Leung and Prof. Kwong Wai Choy, shared insights on recent advances in prenatal genetics, fetal diagnostics and emerging technologies in maternal–fetal medicine. The programme was guided by Dr. Ashok Khurana, Mentor Emeritus of the Society of Fetal Medicine, and Dr. Mohit Shah, National President of the Society of Fetal Medicine.
The event was attended by several eminent dignitaries including Chief Guest Mr. Sunil Advani, Dr. Pramod Umarji, Dr. Mukta Umarji, Dr. Chinmay Umarji (President – Society of Fetal Medicine, Greater Pune Chapter) and Dr. Varun Thakur (Secretary – SFM Pune Chapter).
The scientific programme featured expert sessions on non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS), advances in fetal imaging, genetic testing technologies, diagnosis of congenital disorders and emerging prenatal treatment approaches for genetic diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashok Khurana highlighted that advances in reproductive genetics and fetal diagnostics are transforming maternal–fetal medicine by enabling earlier and more accurate prenatal diagnosis, which improves counselling and outcomes for both mother and baby.
Dr. Chinmay Umarji noted that such academic platforms are crucial for bringing global expertise to India and strengthening collaboration among specialists working to improve maternal and fetal healthcare.
The conference also featured important academic discussions by leading experts. Prof. Shubha Phadake emphasised the urgent need to develop perinatal pathology as an essential tool in efforts to reduce under-five mortality. Dr. Vandana Bansal delivered a session explaining the importance of adopting an appropriate clinical approach for women experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss.
Among the prominent dignitaries present were past president Dr. Bimal Sahani, noted radiologists Dr. Sandeep Pansare and Dr. Yogesh Choudhary, and senior gynaecologists Prof. Ramesh Bhosale, Prof. Uma Wankhede, Prof. Meenal Patwekar and Dr. Mangala Wani, along with several leading obstetricians, radiologists and fetal medicine specialists from across India.
Organisers stated that Fetal Nexus 2026 provided an important platform for academic exchange, collaboration and discussion on integrating genetic science into modern obstetric practice, further strengthening the field of maternal and fetal healthcare.
